Born in Canada to European parents, I have been restless and rootless since infancy. Obsessed with images, moving and still, colour and monochrome.

Given my peripatetic background, I have a great interest in fragments and multiple perspectives – literally and figuratively – and time and loss. I love taking photographs that don’t have a conventional angle, leaving the viewer to ponder for an extra second or two about what they are seeing. An everyday scene turned oddly abstract. My love of photography has a perfect partner in photopolymer etching, where ‘making strange’ is taken a step further, and where no two prints are the same.

How did I get here? Via a long publishing career as a managing editor, and spells studying film, television and radio production. After publishing and I left each other, I decided to follow my passion for art. A fun morning on a linocut course at the Barbican changed everything – suddenly I was addicted to the smell of linseed oil, cast-iron presses, inks, Somerset paper and arcane tools and terms such as intaglio and relief … and the most wonderful printmaking community.

I made up for lost time with myriad workshops and courses at London Print Studio, East London Printmakers, City Lit and Morley College, where I still take part in an advanced printmaking workshop. I am also a member of the Printmakers Council, Southbank Printmakers, Kew Studio and ELP, and I have my own small studio at Worton Hall. Last year, I formed the collective CG.05 with fellow printmakers Shirley Hunter and Zoltan Marfy. We held our first exhibition ‘Still’ at Boo’s Closet, Notting Hill, in the summer of 2022.
